The calm after the storm

Buy a ticket on the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao and you get a free
roller coaster ride thrown in !!

The ferry was late leaving due to an attempted medical evacuation off the
coast of France on the inbound journey. Sadly the passenger died before the
helicopter could take them off. So instead of leaving at 21h30 on Sunday we
did not set sail until 03h00 Monday morning. Lucky for us the wee storm
blowing in the English Channel was only up to force 9 by then, so it was not
too bad a night's sleep.

Up until about 17h00 on Monday, when we turned left at the NW tip of France,
the boat was heading straight into the wind / waves and kept up an endless
rocking / smashing motion, which is entertaining if your stomach can take
it, thankfully ours did. Eventually after the second night onboard and
passing through the Bay of Biscay the weather eased to a force 5 from the
side and a gentle and milder stomach churning side rocking motion took over.
We arrived in Bilbao this afternoon at just after 13h00 local time and it
was very pleasantly calm, warm and sunny.

As we were so late arriving we made haste to the nearest petrol station and
supermarket to feed both Noddy (our m'van) and ourselves. Then it was off on
a short but entertaining drive up and down the local hills to the town of
Mundaca on the coast east from Bilbao to our 1st camp site. There is only us
and another UK motorhome here and it is very quiet. We shall just settle in
for a day or two and plan where to head for next.

Cheers for now.
